Viktor Rydberg School needed a network that could support digital learning across multiple schools in one of Stockholm’s most congested wireless environments. Its previous Wi-Fi struggled with interference, coverage gaps and peak-load performance, creating disruption during lessons and national exams.
Working with GDM, the school deployed RUCKUS access points, RUCKUS switches and RUCKUS One cloud-managed controller functionality to create a fully RUCKUS wired and wireless infrastructure. The result is stable coverage across all schools, simpler management, reliable performance under load, and zero IT tickets related to the network since deployment.
The Challenge: Dense urban Wi-Fi interference was disrupting lessons and national exams
Viktor Rydberg School depends on Wi-Fi as critical infrastructure. Every student has a laptop, and connectivity supports digital learning platforms, educational resources, collaboration, communication, scheduling, grading and daily administration.
The schools are located in central Stockholm, where the high density of neighbouring wireless networks caused significant interference. The previous solution also had coverage gaps and scalability limitations, which made performance unreliable during peak periods. During national exams, when many students needed Wi-Fi at the same time, teachers sometimes had to share mobile data from their phones so students could complete their tests.
The operational impact was clear: interrupted teaching, disrupted exams, frustrated students, increased workload for teachers, and more time spent troubleshooting connectivity instead of focusing on education. Viktor Rydberg School needed a secure, stable and scalable network that could handle dense environments, reduce interference and maintain performance across multiple buildings.
The Solution: A fully RUCKUS wired and wireless network built for dense school environments
Working with GDM, Viktor Rydberg School initially deployed RUCKUS access points to address Wi‑Fi performance and coverage issues. The school later replaced all switches with RUCKUS switches, creating a full RUCKUS infrastructure across all seven schools.
RUCKUS BeamFlex+® helped address interference and coverage challenges in dense urban surroundings and older buildings with thick concrete walls. The technical benefit was more resilient RF performance and stronger coverage in areas that had previously been difficult to reach. The real-world impact was that students and staff could stay connected in classrooms and throughout the school day, including during high-demand moments such as exams.
The move to RUCKUS One also simplified operations by giving the IT team a more flexible and scalable management platform. With access points, switches and controller functionality brought into a unified RUCKUS environment, the team gained better visibility, easier monitoring and a network architecture that can support future expansion. Security requirements were also addressed through features such as WPA3, secure guest access and network segmentation to help protect student and staff data.
