Transforming the City of San José
When the city of San José, home to more technology companies than anywhere else in the world, realized that almost 100,000 residents were without high-speed internet, they pledged to bring free broadband to every resident. What started as a plan to deliver free Wi-Fi to downtown San José, soon grew into an impressive Wi-Fi network that allowed users to effortlessly connect throughout the city’s airport, convention center, school district and city streets.
East Side Union High School District (ESUHSD)
As ESUHSD transitioned to a digital curriculum, nearly a third of students with no internet at home were struggling to keep up. In order to close this “Homework Gap," ESUHSD tasked SmartWAVE Technologies with broadcasting its Wi-Fi network into the surrounding low-income areas. SmartWAVE Technologies chose RUCKUS to extend the school’s network that needed to be easy to deploy, deliver a powerful and secure signal, and be simple to manage.
San José Community Broadband
In order to close the digital divide, the city of San José and their technology partner, SmartWAVE Technologies, built a free outdoor Wi-Fi network that flowed from public schools, libraries and community centers into the neighborhoods. To achieve this, SmartWAVE Technologies installed hundreds of RUCKUS access points in the city streets to deliver high-speed Wi-Fi.
San José McEnery Convention Center
When the San José McEnery Convention Center underwent a $130 million renovation, it provided the perfect opportunity to upgrade its Wi-Fi technology. Through a partnership with SmartWAVE Technologies and RUCKUS, they deployed a Wi-Fi network that is well-equipped to host the most prestigious events in Silicon Valley with thousands of attendees.
San José Mineta International Airport (SJC)
When San José’s Mineta International Airport (SJC) needed to align its services with the expectations of travelers visiting Silicon Valley, they sought to bring high-speed Wi-Fi into the airport. Through a partnership with SmartWAVE Technologies and RUCKUS, SJC now ranks #1 for the fastest airport Wi-Fi in the U.S.
